CFC has a need for a Senior Accountant - Tax on our Accounting team. This is a hybrid position requiring onsite work at our headquarters office in Sterling, VA, as well as optional remote workdays. The Senior Accountant - Tax serves as the company’s subject matter expert (“SME”) on all tax-related matters and provides support on non-tax accounting matters to various groups such as external financial reporting, general accounting and loan accounting, on an as-needed basis. This person will be an individual contributor and is expected to develop tax strategies and policies in response to proposed business transactions and revised/updated tax rules, and provide tax-planning guidance to senior management. The Senior Accountant - Tax will be responsible for timely and accurate preparation and filings/payments of various taxes, and will also work closely with third-party service provider for federal and state income tax returns and provision for financial reporting.
As a Senior Accountant - Tax, you will: • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate tax requirements and mitigation of tax risk for CFC and its affiliates, including working closely with third-party service provider. • Perform tax research, identify critical tax risks, monitor, evaluate and communicate the impact of enacted changes in federal, state and local tax regulations. • Manage tax provisions, general ledger entries, reconciliations, unclaimed property and escheatment process, and required financial reporting disclosures for the company’s financial statements. • Respond to tax-related inquiries and correspondence from federal, state and local tax authorities, external auditors and internal accounting, legal and HR inquiries, and assist in resolution of issues. • Proactively identify and implement tax-related process improvements to ensure the accuracy and adequate documentation of all tax calculations, reports and filings and ensures compliance with tax-related SOX controls. • Monitor and update state nexus study based on local regulations and business activities. • Be responsible for other tax related matters like 1099s, Business, Professional and Occupational License tax, property tax, etc. • Assist with the preparation and completion of the quarterly Form 10-Q and annual 10-K filings with the SEC. • Complete account reconciliations, journal entries, and other month-end and quarter close process. • Prepare board materials, reviews of investor relations/rating agency communications, support patronage capital processes, and budgeting and forecasting.
To be successful, you will need: • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field, with emphasis in tax preferred. • CPA required. • 3+ years of tax compliance experience in public accounting or private industry. • Experience with CCH ProSystem tax preparation and compliance software is preferred. • Form 990 experience preferred. • Strong technical knowledge of tax and accounting principles and financial reporting disclosure requirements. • Advanced analytical and strategic thinking skills with demonstrated ability to perform tax and accounting research, independently evaluate issues, assess impact of transactions in multiple jurisdictions and apply sound business judgment. • Ability to take leadership role in the collection and communication of information in response to inquiries from senior management, external auditors and federal and state income tax auditors. • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills • Knowledge of SOX compliance requirements. • Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge and use of Microsoft Office products.
