Job Summary
This position is primarily responsible for post-award grant administration and related project accounting. The Grant and Compliance Accountant provides internal support and accounting functions to program managers and agency leadership for the organization’s government grants, foundation grants, and restricted donations. This position is responsible to maintain compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and funder requirements. Duties include support of payroll, AP, AR and journal entries; assisting with the budget and audits; completing monthly and year-end grant and fund close procedures, and assisting in the preparation of financial reports as needed.
ob Functions and Responsibilities:
Review grant contracts
Record revenue and expenses for each assigned fund
Monitor budget to actual in coordination with program managers and others
Report expenses and submit invoices to funders
Close-out grants
Monitor compliance, communicate and enforce established internal control practices
Ensure that accounting records are maintained for assigned programs, as required by program regulations and generally accepted accounting principles.
Assist with reconciliation of accounts;
Complete journal entries as needed;
Assist in preparation for program and agency audits and monitoring visits;
Assist with application of cost allocation plan;
Advise and implement new procedures as needed;
Provide back-up for Payroll and A/P; support 1099 completion and distribution;
Assist others in the administrative and fiscal department with special projects, and other duties as assigned;
Other Tasks Assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to utilize accounting software
Expert skills in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
Ability to accurately apply Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP)
Knowledge of internal control procedures to safeguard assets
Effective communication and ability to work collaboratively
Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision
Detail-oriented and highly organized work style
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities to ensure completion of work in a timely and efficient manner
Ability to utilize sound judgment when working with secure information and maintain a high level of confidentiality
Ability to work effectively in a mission-driven agency with diverse staff and clients
Education and Experience (Minimum Requirements)
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Required;
Grants and Compliance Training Provided;
Three years of related experience preferred;
Experience in a non-profit is preferred;
Experience with fund accounting is preferred.
