The Sr Director of HR will be responsible for handling, overseeing and leading initiatives in talent management, benefits administration, performance management, and employee relations. Additionally, this role will manage employee policies and procedures. The Sr Director will be a key advocate for the BSO’s mission, strategy, and culture. This position reports directly to the CFO.
Salary Range is $110,000.00 - $125,000.00 commensurate with experience, expertise and other qualifying factors.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Administers or oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
Collaborate with Directors, Managers and employees to resolve employee relations matters, investigate issues of potential misconduct, policy violations or other disciplinary matters and make recommendations to leadership. Train, coach, and support managers through employee performance concerns, including through termination.
Oversee benefit administration including Open Enrollment, ensuring the organization and its employees receive necessary services, support and communication.
Oversees and participates in all aspects of Talent Management to include sourcing, recruiting, interviewing and selection. Responsible for managing, developing talent retention strategies and managing data on retention. Develops and executes best practices for recruiting and retention.
Conduct new employee orientation and benefit overview.
Works closely with the Orchestra Personnel office on BSO musician HR matters; provide guidance, training, and consultation on HR employment law, union contract and regulatory matters.
Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization’s human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system.
Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
Develops and implements departmental budget.
Work closely with the BSO’s Payroll & Benefits Accountant to proactively address any payroll or benefit accounting questions, improve processes, and advise the organization on payroll matters.
Update and maintain personnel policies and procedures in compliance with state and federal law, in support of equity and inclusion and industry best practices.
Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
Performs other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in HR management, business or related field; 5-7 years progressively responsible Human Resources experience
Proficient with ADP
3+ years working in a union environment a plus
Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices; experience incorporating a DEI lens into HR compliance and practice
Knowledgeable on all applicable federal and state laws and regulations and organizational compliance requirements.

Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to build relationships across all levels
Ability to act independently, take initiative, and meet changing priorities

Must be able to work in office 4 days per week.
Highly Desirable Requirements
Experience in the performing arts industry and/or nonprofit sector
Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification
Demonstrated experience introducing or including play, joy, and levity into organizational practice
Physical Requirements:
This role primarily works in an office environment and frequently has prolonged periods of sitting and looking at a computer screen. May require travel between locations.
