Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting activities. The Controllership is a hands-on role that performs general accounting functions, provides proactive analysis and reporting to internal and external customers and maintains strong internal controls. She/he will analyze existing processes and systems and work closely with the CFO, accounting staff, and others to streamline current systems, leverage technology, and establish standard operating procedures that ensure compliance and provide maximum benefit to all stakeholders. The Controller is responsible for all functions of the Controller’s Office and the Donor Resource Management Team.

Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal control systems designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of Moody’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
Implement and oversee consistent accounting policies, practices, procedures, and internal control systems across all
Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and other regulatory
Conduct internal audits of finance processes, records, and information and coordinate corrective actions
Coordinate annual audit activity, including the preparation of financial reports and footnotes, and working closely with auditors to provide all reports and data needed. Ensure audit is completed timely within the approved budget.
Ensure accurate and timely completion and presentation of monthly and annual financial reports, including analysis of performance against budget and current projections. In collaboration with the Director of FP&A, support CFO in providing financial reports and forecasts to the executive team and key stakeholders.
Assist the CFO and Director of FP&A in the annual budgeting and planning
Oversee restricted asset and grant accounting; in coordination with the stewardship and development teams, ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; ensure accurate tracking and timely release of restricted
Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions including but not limited to cash receipts, disbursements, payroll costs, and investment
Oversee regular and timely review and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts to ensure accurate presentation of values in the statement of financial
Maintain the chart of accounts in a way that enables management at all levels to capture information in a meaningful
Ensure robust processes are in place to manage capital budgets, including the tracking, reporting and reconciling of purchase orders and related
Ensure the timely completion and filing of tax reports including Form 990 and 1099’s, as well as forms and filings required by accrediting organizations, governing agencies, and insurance companies.
Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and ensure proper maintenance and updating of accounting systems, develop and maintain tools (e.g., spreadsheets, databases) to ensure proper, complete, and accurate record-keeping.

Minimum Requirements
B.S. or B.A. in Accountancy
Ten years of direct or equivalent experience
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, associated laws and experience with complex chart of accounts, advanced accounting systems, MS Office Products, plus Excel
Strong written and verbal communication skills; customer service oriented; detail oriented; team player; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
High value of ethics, dependability, and
Authorized to work in the US legally without sponsorship
Preferred Requirements
Certified Public Accountant designation
Higher education accounting experience
Strong understanding of not-for-profit financial management
Knowledge of Oracle Cloud Financials

This job operates professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is a full-time position: Monday through Friday, Flexible hours (7 ¾) between 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The role is expected onsite at our Chicago location at least three days a week; telecommuting the remainder of the week.
