Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant, for the University Controller's Office. Reporting to the Associate Controller, Cost Analysis & Capital Equipment Management, this position will perform complex financial analyses, including data gathering, reconciliations, reporting, and monitoring of financials as it relates to fringe benefit accounting to ensure transparency. This position will also be the lead liaison with the Office of Research Core Services for service center/core facility rates review, monitoring, biennial reviews, and closings.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Supports the University's fringe benefit accounting in conjunction with the offices of Financial Planning and Analysis, Accounting Operations, financial analysts, and the Associate Controller.
Conducts reviews, reconciliations, projections, and reporting of financial activities related to fringe benefit accounting, including FICA Recovery reporting to the State.
Ensures that recorded activity complies with University and State of NJ regulations, GAAP, and other applicable external restrictions.
Assists as a resource for University departments regarding fringe benefit information and compliance.
Provides support in the preparation of fringe benefit reporting and payments to the State, and fringe benefit rates to the federal government.
Collaborates with the Office for Research Core Services on service center/core facility rate reviews, biennial studies, and compliance monitoring.
Analyzes and compiles data for financial reports, surveys, and audits in support of senior leadership, including SEFA/SESA reporting.
Prepares and/or assists surveys and reports required by external agencies and authoritative bodies.
Provides recommendations on analyses, reports, methodologies, systems, and data.
Supports journal entries in the GL and project ledger, reconciles project-only fund types 155, 156, and 157, ensures year-end balances are accurate, and educates departments on correcting errors.
Performs monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing tasks in FCCS in coordination with University Accounting.
Understands and reconciles balance sheet natural accounts related to fringe benefit accounting.
Assists with external auditor requests, Uniform Guidance audit support, the HERD survey, SALCAL, and other Cost Analysis team surveys.
Participates in the HCM implementation and assists with testing and troubleshooting related to future fringe accounting and reporting.
Maintains knowledge of Oracle Financials, Tableau, and Microsoft Office products
Pulls and analyzes data as appropriate.
Performs additional tasks and duties as assigned by Senior Leadership.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field and at least five (5) years of professional experience working directly with financial data analysis, modeling, and decision support; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
