The Office of the University Controller (UCO) provides leadership and guidance for financial compliance, systems and services at Indiana University. The University Accounting & Reporting Services (UARS) function within UCO provides accounting services to IU campuses and Responsibility Centers (RCs) to mitigate compliance and audit risk, provides functional resources and accounting expertise to facilitate internal accounting and reporting, and supports the campuses and RCs by providing accounting and consulting services.
Job Summary
The UARS Manager is tasked with serving as the University Chart Manager and oversees and maintains UCO's internal reporting environment to ensure accurate and reliable financial reporting and compliance information through accounting and fiscal guidance. In support of UCO, this role also serves in an advisory capacity on various projects and functions enabling improved processes, controls, and compliance.

Department Specific Responsibilities
- Collaborates with other areas within UCO, as well as the University Budget Office, UITS, and the campuses, among others, to ensure that standard internal financial reporting is accurate and reliable and that Kuali financial processing documents have the appropriate document restrictions to minimize compliance and audit risk.
- Hires, trains, develops and oversees employee growth and performance
- Communicates organizational needs to staff
- Maintains financial statement object code mapping ensuring statements are in balance and adhering to GAAP / GASB principles
- Maintains integrity of financial information presented through analysis of financial statement balances
- Develops new internal financial reports or enhancements to existing reports both as a service to other organizations and as a control
- Maintains the Controller's Office Reporting Tools (CORT) application in collaboration with UCO Financial Systems team
- Provides guidance on using and running reports in KFS, IUIE, & CORT
- Provides customer service to KFS, IUIE, and CORT users through support form submissions or inquiries to uars@iu.edu
- Provides accounting and fiscal guidance/advisory to KFS users on appropriate accounting treatments and document type usage
- Maintains UARS CRM platform and documentation
- Maintains the UCO website and related materials through HTML code in Grav
- Continuously collaborates with financial systems admin team through reoccurring meetings facilitating report improvements and enhancements, enhanced security of financial information, and process improvements for routine tasks like updating object code mappings
- Facilitates fiscal closing procedures through coordinating with constituent reporting units
- Consults on closing procedures for constituent reporting units
General Responsibilities
- Applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Performs more complex accounting assignments requiring advanced professional experience, knowledge, and competency in accounting principle and practices to safeguard the organization's financial resources and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements.
- Establishes and maintains accounting policies and controls, fiscal controls, and financial reports.
- Prepares, reviews, and provides interpretation of complex reports and analyses for manager and officers.
- Submits recommendations for improved operations.
- Oversees and assists with specialized accounting assignments such as the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial activity.
- Provides work leadership to lower-level accounting employees.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree accounting, or related field

- Master's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 5 years relevant experience. Advanced level of accounting practices/methods essential to the success of this position

- Supervisory experience and experience with system and/or report design
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible for remote work or a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change based on university policy and the department's business needs.
Advertised Salary
$85,000 - $90,176 annually, depending up qualifications.
