The Senior Accountant 3 is responsible for providing advanced technical and general accounting support to the Assistant Director of Finance within UCLA's Faculty Practice Group (FPG). This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining financial records, and supporting the monthly general ledger close process.
The incumbent will manage financial reporting, perform complex account reconciliations, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support the financial operations of FPG departments. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively across teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Process general ledger month-end close, coordinating with internal and external partners.
Record revenue and expenses in compliance with UCLA FPG policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Prepare, analyze, and interpret complex financial statements and reports, including budget variance analysis.
Conduct detailed monthly financial reviews to ensure accurate ledger reporting.
Provide support and guidance to junior accounting staff to ensure consistency with accounting standards.
Reconcile university accounting ledgers and various financial accounts, including cash, revenue, claims, and A/R accounts.
Assist in the preparation and monitoring of annual operating and capital budgets.
Serve as an accounting liaison to departments, physicians, and other stakeholders, providing financial insights and responding to information requests.
Identify and recommend system improvements to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other sensitive financial protocols.
Support the development of department policies and procedures.
Participate in special projects and other assigned accounting initiatives.
Salary Range: $68,800 - $141,000 Annually
Qualifications
Minimum three years of professional accounting experience or equivalent is required. Some supervisory and government accounting experience is desirable.
A Bachelor’s Degree with a major in accounting, business administration or closely related field or equivalent experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices
Working knowledge of fund accounting and healthcare accounting is preferred.
Written communication skills to prepare clear and concise correspondence at a level appropriate for the intended audience; effectively communicate findings and adjustments both orally and in writing.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word. Knowledge of Syntellis and SQL is preferred.
Demonstrate the ability to manage and complete numerous projects simultaneously.
Knowledge of management reporting and financial statement preparation.
Demonstrated skill in financial analysis.
Demonstrated ability to reconcile departmental records to system reports.
Working knowledge of University accounting policies and procedures and ability to read and understand University ledgers.
Ability to comply with Departmental Financial Policies and Procedural manual.
