This position is responsible for accounting activities, account analysis, month end close, account reconciliation and other tasks. The position will have primary responsibility for endowment, restricted fund and grant accounting, reporting and audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Grant Accounting and reconciliation.
- Meet and reconcile with Institutional Advancement, Student Financial Services and departments managing grants on a regular basis.
- Submit reimbursement requests and required reports to grantors. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and grant documents.
- Interpret and apply federal, state, endowment and grantor policies and regulations.
- Interpret and apply University and financial accounting policies related to accounting transactions.
- Analyses accounts, evaluate data for trending and identify areas of further improvement.
- Monthly close Endowment subsystem and reconcile all accounts and individual endowment funds.
- Provide reporting to all relevant parties on available funds related to endowments, restricted gifts and grants.
- Monthly close / journal entries and general accounting and reconciliation
- Perform annual endowment spending calculation, distribution across individual endowment funds and notify relevant parties of funds available for the next fiscal year.
- Assist with annual financial audit engagement, and serve as primary contact for the federal and state compliance audits.
- Assist with preparation of materials for the Investment and Finance Committees on endowment performance, spending rule, etc.
- Provide support for other Business Office functions as these arise.
Job Requirements:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in accounting or finance;
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in accounting or finance field.
- Knowledge of compliance and/or audit functions a plus
- Higher education experience or not for profit experience preferred.
- Previous experience in accounting with general ledger, and month end closings.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and budgets.
- Proficiency in Excel including analytical functions (e.g. pivot tables, lookup).
Other Qualifications
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment.
- Possess solid general computer skills, including ability to work in a Windows environment. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Internet, and other programs as needed (e.g., mail merge, data base management). Familiarity with specific applications used by the University/Department a plus.
- Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient manner
- Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population
- Exhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, diplomacy, negotiation and sales skills, and the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision
