The primary areas of responsibilities and expertise required for this position are corporate accounting and plant accounting. A comprehensive understanding of PNGC’s corporate costs includes analysis, reconciling, accounting, communicating, and reporting for investments, operating leases, property taxes, prepayments, fixed assets, energy efficiency, and long-term debt. This position is the lead plant accountant for PNGC’s biomass generation plant and works directly with plant employees for reporting requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform month-end closing duties including preparation of journal entries incorporating account analysis and reconciliation for corporate costs and plant costs.
- Perform daily banking reconciliation and cash forecasting and communicating to the department.
- Perform overhead allocations and reconciliation process.
- Perform monthly analysis, reporting, and communication of budget variances to department managers and assist managers as needed.
- Complete monthly plant reporting requirements.
- Assist in financial statement analysis and year-end audit preparation and reconciliation.
- Assist in regulatory reporting and other reporting requirements as needed.
- Perform a variety of accounting duties in accordance with GAAP.
POSITION KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
- Preferred experience of at least 5 years specializing in accounting. Utility experience a plus.
- A thorough knowledge of GAAP and plant accounting.
- Must be a self-starter with advanced problem-solving skills and must be able to perform duties with a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills required.
- Proven analytical skills, organizational skills, as well as demonstrated attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Excel required including building and using formulas/pivot tables/graphs.
- Professional presence which promotes responsible, reliable, and efficient work habits.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, while consistently meeting deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a smaller organization that requires flexibility and willingness to support others.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics SL accounting software a plus.
