Position Summary
The Finance Manager is responsible for bookkeeping, financial management, and other services to ensure that 904WARD has industry-standard accounting practices and accurate financial reporting. We are looking for a competent Finance Manager to provide the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping services as well as assist with developing financial processes and procedures.
To be an excellent Finance Manager, you must be organized and detail-oriented, comfortable working with diverse teams with varying levels of financial knowledge, and able to work at a fast pace. The goal will be to ensure that we have accurate accounting that allows us to know our financial position, accurately categorize and report financials, and examine trends to make appropriate financial predictions. Responsibilities
The Finance Manager reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for:
- Maintaining internal financial books for 904WARD according to generally accepted accounting practices, including separate classes for each program;
- Reviewing and updating existing internal control processes and procedures as necessary;
- Leading the monthly financial close process;
- Reconciling bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and journal entries;
- Reviewing transactions imported into the accounting system, ensuring appropriate accruals and transaction classes;
- Leading the annual budget process, helping to develop organizational budget and advising department leads in managing departmental budgets;
- Develop and manage appropriate departmental budgets (ie, Finance and General and Operating);
- Processing payroll and direct deposit payments to contractors;
- Generating management reports and basic financial statements;
- Generating quarterly board reports as well as monthly revenue and expense reports for restricted grants, including grant balances;
- Preparing for annual financial audit and interface with external audit team;
- Periodically consulting with management around financial issues; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will combine a passion for achieving racial justice with exceptional accounting, bookkeeping, and financial management skills. Among the assets and attributes sought are the following:

- Has experience working the spreadsheets and multiple financial platforms

- Able to succeed in a fast-paced, quickly-changing environment

Requirements
- Minimum Associate’s degree in Finance or related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum two years of experience in accounting/finance, with experience in nonprofit finance greatly preferred
- Solid understanding of accounting and bookkeeping and related standards and laws
- A commitment to ending racism and knowledge/experience in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Knowledge of tax and other compliance implications of having a 501(c)(3) status
