The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing the organization’s accounting operations. This role oversees daily functions including project accounting, accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, and cash management. The position ensures the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting while mentoring and developing a high-performing accounting team. Additionally, the Accounting Manager is responsible for performing the payroll function.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversees the daily operations of accounting department, including accounts payable/receivable, project accounting, reporting and cash management.
Perform day to day payroll processing responsibilities such as process employee deductions and withholdings, review and approve employee reimbursements, monthly union reporting, audits and documentation.
Leads, mentors, and manages accounting team ensuring accuracy of financial data. Provides training and guidance.
Approves financial transfers, prepares monthly WIP reports, collaborates with the Project Management team to resolve discrepancies, and delivers finalized reports to the CFO.
Lead monthly and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries and accruals. Ensure accurate project and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial records.
Manage sales and use and payroll tax reconciliation and reporting, including preparation and filing of monthly, quarterly and annual tax reports in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Drive process improvements within the accounting function by identifying inefficiencies, implementing automation solutions, and collaborating cross-functionally to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
Oversee the preparation and coordination of annual financial review.
Participates in and leads special project work. Support CFO in strategic planning and initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Necessary Experience & Qualifications:
Must-Have Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
Five years of construction accounting experience including leadership or supervisory experience.
Experience with payroll systems and processing.
Strong understanding of GAAP accounting and tax compliance and regulations, including sales and use tax.
Knowledge of general ledger management and month-end closing procedures.
Proficiency in MS Office with advanced Excel skills, accounting software and financial reporting systems.
Demonstrates people leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop and mentor a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate financial data effectively.
Strong organizational, prioritization and multitasking abilities, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Demonstrates an analytical mindset with strong adaptability and problem-solving skills, essential for navigating complex challenges and a fast paced work environment.

Desired Qualifications:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or CCIFP or willingness to obtain.
Experience in ERP system implementation, including system selection, configuration, data migration, testing, and/or user training.
Notary public status.
Any combination of necessary experience and qualifications which provides desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.
